Thanks JP. Yes, that makes perfect sense.

Ignore previous post. The video is now working for me. It seems I was too impatient.

I finally got some time to myself today, and sat down to watch the video that you made for me, JP. Tragically, for me the video stops at the 54-second mark, and permanently buffers. Can you try watching it yourself, and tell me if it works for you?

    With thanks,
    David

  • Your responses, JP and David, were very helpful. Now that you’ve explained it to me, the answer seems pretty easy. I’m definitely going to follow your suggestions for our next conference. We’ve got the following fixtures to work with for front lighting:

    It seems to me…[Read more]

  • Hi David and JP and others. I’ve taken on board what you’ve said about front lighting: up 45 degrees, and out 45 degrees. That makes perfect sense to me when there’s one place on the stage that you want to illuminate, but what if you need to light the entire width of the stage?

I typically do lighting for conferences. We have a stage that is 8…[Read more]

    Background:

When I was working in ShowXpress, I used to create a ‘zero’ button to move my mover lights to a starting position that worked for me.  When our  Chauvet Rogue Spots are first turned on, they position themselves so that the light beam points downwards, and panned towards their control panel. That’s not ideal from a programming point o…[Read more]

    Hi David,

I posted a ‘welcome’ on a new user’s intro post, and then I got to wondering: did I do the right thing? Is it your expectation that people other than yourself and JP will interact with each other? or do you want to keep as a we-ask-you-answer dynamic?

    David

  • Hi Mark,

I’m just one of the other learners around here and offer my warm welcome to the community. There’s heaps of helpful information in the videos, and answers to your specific questions are available in these forums. See you ’round.

  • “Early in the new year i’ll create a video to share how I setup M-PC for busking/punting and share it either here on the forums or on YouTube.” – JP

I’m working my way through your YouTube video entitled “Simple Way to Setup M-PC for a Live Band”.  I’m learning a lot.

  • Thanks for sharing your approach, JP. That’s very helpful.

  • So JP, it sounds like you prefer to stick to one particular view of presets, and don’t switch to different views of the same presets category. Is that correct?

  • Hi David and JP,

In your videos, I noticed that you lay out your presets in a grid on the “Groups – Presets” view. Fair enough, that makes perfect sense to me, so I did likewise. On other views though, the presets don’t appear in the same grid pattern because the underlying matrix has a different number of cells per row. I’m talking in particular…[Read more]

  • I believe the message is: go buy an Obsidian control surface. Fair enough. Wish I’d thought ahead a bit before buying the Akai APC Mini.

    Thanks for the info, JP.

  • I’m having trouble understanding the status of support for Onyx within ShowCockpit. I believe it is to be discontinued or shifted to Onyx OSC, whatever that is. Additionally, it looks like the free version of Onyx will cripple OSC capability, so maybe we won’t even be able to use that.

I’ve just bought an Akai APC Mini, and I’d sure like to use…[Read more]

I’m going through the “Onyx For The Complete Newbie” action plan right now. Loving it. Many thanks.

    Thanks for that clarification, JP.

  • tranquil started the topic NX-DMX vs DMX-AN in the forum Onyx 1 month, 1 week ago

I don’t get it. Why would I buy the Onyx NX-DMX box (USB to 2 DMX universes) instead of the Chauvet DMX-AN box (sACN/Art-Net to 2 DMX universes)?  The NX-DMX box is more expensive; does it offer any advantages?

“Dave, Choosing the right console is a big decision, Have you taken a look at our “How to Choose the Right Gear” action plan, that can help you make a decision regarding your console?” – JP

Hi JP. No, I haven’t looked into that action plan yet, and I will. Many thanks for responding to me personally, and for your encouragement.
