That’s great news about the baby and the interest in doing the tutorial! Thank you so much for following up. You’re the best my friend. I look forward to what you and David have in store for this year. Sounds exciting.
Thank you once again. Yes that video did help. I wasn’t aware of the virtual dimmer. I’m still learning what I can and cannot do. I had figured some things out before you got back to me but you always provide a few more nuggets of information. Just curious if you ever mentioned the Onyx demo deconstruction idea to David once he returned…[Read more]
Hey JP. Thanks for getting back to me. I did manage to do what you showed me before you showed it to me. I just kept playing with it as I watched David’s video on Dylos.
What I was wondering is why, when in 50 channel mode, you only have control over the intensity attribute. I tried the 48 channel mode and I could only control the color. No…[Read more]
Hello David and JP, happy new year.
Hope you had a festive holiday season. I had a question pertaining to pixel mapping in Onyx.
I have some Chauvet Freedom Sticks and they are basically led tape in a tube. I’ve patched the fixtures in 50 channel mode so I can have complete control of the 32 SMD’s in each stick. I’ve also set up my 2D view and…[Read more]
Thank you so much. I’ll play with it and let you know how it all works out. That’s kind of where I started, with a chase, but I didn’t know how to trigger it to the music. Now I do, thanks to you. Please let me know what David thinks about deconstructing the Onyx training demo. That would be awesome. There’s a lot to unpack in that demo…[Read more]
Thank you for that video. It wasn’t exactly what I was looking for but very useful none the less. You’ve saved me from having to ask you about that as you’ve thoroughly explained it. I can see how having an intensity fader for each group of fixtures would be useful the way you’ve laid it out. As always, I’ll have to watch it a few more…[Read more]
Hope all is well with you.
I have another question. I’m trying to come up with a simple dimmer pulse that I can use universally over any fixture with a dimmer. I want the pulse to be 50% to 100% on a instant up ramp to 100% then down to 50% and then back up etc. And, I want to be able to control the rate via bpm and/or beat button. I’ve…[Read more]
Yes, once again you’ve nailed it!
I actually kept playing with this after I sent the email to you and basically figured it out through trial and error. Yours is slightly different than mine and actually a better way to do it.

I hope all is well with you. I had a question about a chase scene I saw. It was an eight fixture configuration and it was chasing from left to right. I tried to duplicate it but can’t quite figure it out. I can get them to chase left to right but not the way I saw on the video. My…[Read more]
Thank you so much for doing this. As usual I’ll have to watch this several times to fully digest it. This is a different approach for me, Please don’t feel as though you’re insulting my method because I really don’t have one. I’m here to learn. I will use your information as a framework to build on. I know I will only get this by doing…[Read more]
I was looking for the Elation M-Touch and noticed that it seems to have been discontinued maybe?
It’s no longer on Elations website. It’s backordered on KPODJ’s website although they also have the NX-Touch at a higher price and it looks exactly the same and it’s backordered as well. The M-Play is still on Elations website but not…[Read more]
Yeah I’m still working on it. I sent my show file to your email address. I hope you have fun on those shows this weekend. I’ll let you know if that follow up video will be necessary. I don’t want to put you through a bunch of trouble. I know your time is valuable.
Sure thing, I can forward the show file to you. Interesting you should mention attributes in the preset because I’m thinking that may be the culprit. I’ve been including everything I’m using in a particular scene. For example, I always include intensity and color and pan/tilt position but also include gobo and beam if those were…[Read more]
I’ve watched your video a few times now and this tracking thing is kinda tricky. I noticed you mentioned it was an awesome tool once you understand how to use it. I’m looking forward to that understanding as it hasn’t quite sunk in yet. I’m still working on it but I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your help.
Wow! Thank you JP!!
That’s what I call customer service! I watched the video once but will definitely have to watch it a few more times. This is all new to me and I have a bit of a learning curve to overcome. I really do appreciate the personalized attention. I’m very much a visual/hands on learner. I like to reverse engineer things. It makes…[Read more]
Thank you JP. I look forward to receiving it. Also, I have another issue that confuses me. I have made a number of different scenes and recorded them as presets. When I go to play them back the first one plays perfectly however when I click on the next scene attributes of the previous scene bleed through throwing off the look. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your input. I had watched those videos before but went back and watched them again. They don’t answer my questions directly but I was able to come up with a bally hoo just by copying what I saw David doing. The dimmer, shutter and strobe chases are another matter. My dimmer chase is decent but my shutter chase is lame. I noticed…[Read more]
Pardon my ignorance but can you direct me to the video that specifically explains, step by step, how to manipulate the FX functions in Onyx? I would like to know how to do a ballyhoo, a dimmer chase, a shutter chase, a strobe chase, cross positions in unison, offsets, etc. I’ve been all through the Fx section of Onyx and it just confuses me.…[Read more]
Yes this is the demo I’m referring to and it doesn’t show anything in the 2D plan front view. I can see everything in the overhead view but nothing in the front view. I guess that’s just the way it is.
